Yule and Winter Solstice: Celebrating the Power of Color, Darkness and Light

Light

I have always been very aware of the power of color and more so during certain festivities and holidays.

Colors hold certain wavelengths of electro-magnetic energy seen through our eyes that affect not only us but everyone around us as well.

It has been known for eons of time that color plays a major role in setting up a particular mood or state of mind. Color does affect one’s feelings, moods, and emotions. They also have an impact on our sense of well-being. Although not all colors mean the same to all people and all culture they do influence the flow and amount of energy in our bodies and energy field.

And as we are approaching the winter solstice on December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere.

The winter solstice marks the longest night of the year and the time when the light begins returning after a period of great darkness. It’s a holiday that can often get lost in the midst of all the holiday buzz, but if offers us an important opportunity to pause and reflect on all that’s transpired in the past year.

It gives us to a chance to take all of our year’s experiences, the highlights and the challenges, and bring them to completion and prepare for a new cycle. Only when we’ve fully digested and integrated our last cycle of experiences can we glean their true gifts and wisdom and open to what lies ahead.

So now is the time to shine our lights into the darkness of the night, into our lives and the world. Inside all that, here is a simple ritual to celebrate entering the light through the darkness:

Place some gold glitter in a bowl of water. Light a candle to bring light and prosperity into your life and into the world. Honor the Spiritual Beings for blessing us with their light. Dip your hand in the water and sprinkle the glitter “sunshine” over your head and on your hair whilst focusing on what you bring forth into your life and visualizing a golden light running from the top of your head all the way down, covering you completely. If you are with others, let each person anoint another. Allow time for the energy to settle, you may complete the ceremony with a prayer and exchange of gifts symbolizing the exchange of energy and abundance.

Remember that the light shines the brightest in the darkest places. 😉
